Some key information on AAA’s

Mortality

  • < 10% for elective repair using open technique

  • 5% for endoluminal repair

  • approaches 100% if not operated

  • 80% in all ruptured AAA’s

    • 45% in those reaching hospital

Poor prognostic factors

  • increasing age, especially if age > 80 years and acute rupture

  • pre-operative renal impairment

  • pre-operative hypotension or anaemia

  • massive transfusion
